Company Info
We
are very proud of our own internally produced line of hardwood flooring, moulding, and lumber. Our specialty is California native hardwood species like: Black Oak, Tan Oak, and Madrone and also locally cultivated species like: Elm, Ash, and Claro Walnut. Because we have our own sawmill and processing facility, custom mill orders can be accomodated with reasonable scheduling.
California Hardwood Producers is located in Placer County, just outside the Sierra Nevada foothill town of Auburn, CA. It is situated on the site of the old CAL-IDA lumber company and sawmill, which was once one of the largest manufacturing mills in Placer County. This is the "Gold Country" where the gold rush started in 1848.
For the last 15 years we have continued that tradition as a working sawmill and lumber company. Unlike most lumber yards that are primarily resellers of softwood products made by corporate giants, we focus on hardwoods that are milled and produced by our own company. We do, of course, resell products made by others which include hardwood flooring and exotic lumber species.
We
also salvage logs from landfills, city waste streams and logs
that are culled from the normal life span of
trees.
| History
California Hardwood Producers was founded
by Dave Parmenter. Dave's background includes time spent as
contractor, a cabinet maker, and as a sawyer. His entire life
has been devoted to working with and processing wood. Starting
with his son and a small mobile sawmill, the operation
grew steadily until 5 years ago when a catastrophic
fire wiped out everything. Rebuilding the operation has been
the goal since then.
